1. An Engineering Masterpiece:

Architectural design by Dwell Design Studio
Any guess on how many screws were used for this project? We’ve been informed it was over 10K. Definitely mind blowing.  We imagine this task was given to an intern. In all seriousness the innovative designs of these elevator lobby signages by Dwell Design Studio in collaboration with Madera Arts in Atlanta, GA is something to behold. Not only was there meticulous care given to making the floor numbers, but the concept of metal screws up against the brown reclaimed wood is a sight to behold. It gives a double rustic impression in a modern hotel setting. We love this and we have proof that social media loves this as well!

2. Bourbon Road Restaurant With Accents:

The Stave Restaurant off the Bourbon Road in Frankfort, Ky
Kentucky isn’t only known for great bourbon and fast horses, but also for the many antique tobacco barns and paddock fencing that are now being reclaimed for interior design purposes.  The whitewashed accent pieces mixed in this wood wall definitely demand the eye’s attention.  It’s hard to imagine a better compliment to a meal along the bourbon road than some antique timber highlighting the environment. Let’s all raise a glass to this mind blowing fashion statement!

3. Classic Harleys Feeling Right At Home:

Southern Thunder Harley, Southaven, Mississippi
How many people do you know who would love visiting this Harley showroom just to get a taste of the visual experience on display?  The juxtaposition of Harley bikes with an underlay of repurposed maple factory flooring with modern rustic design gives the sensation like you’re an extra in a classy movie scene from the turn of the 20th century.  The prestige of these iconic hogs shining next to the sanded down and re-stained repurposed maple wood forces us to declare this design experience a 5 out of 5 on the mind blowing scale.

4. Water Closet Extravagance:

Bathroom located in Lexington, Ky
It’s not necessary to check into a 6 Star hotel on the French Riviera to disconnect from the chaos of life. With the right ceramic tub encircled by antique wall paneling it’s possible to completely decompress from the hustle and bustle in your own water closet.  The wood wall radiates warmth with the biophilic design choice of bringing nature indoors. What is more mind blowing? The white tub, tan tiles and light walls highlighted by these few reclaimed wood panels or the fact that this house sold within 24 hours after being listed?

5. Floating Shelves On Sophisticated Backsplash:

Home in Lexington, KY
Subway tiles and upcycled shelves seems to be a match made for prime time! When displayed by itself, repurposed wood gives off an immediate rustic feel. But when combined with a feature such as subway tile it communicates something completely different. The tile backsplash in this kitchen changes the perception of the wood and transforms the space into a contemporary interior masterpiece.  It really doesn’t matter what dishes or decorations you place on these shelves, it’s all going to look stunning.  That said, we agree with this homeowner’s decision to follow the less is more philosophy on these shelves to allow the skip faced timbers to speak loudest.

6. Antique Timber Table With An Extra Touch:

Table built by Lakeside Woodworks
You don’t need to build your dream modern farmhouse in order to take you back in time to when furniture lasted a lifetime and houses were built to last.  Now all you need is to find a few antique beams from a supplier like us and have your local wood craftsman assemble a table that will withstand a cyclone.  The most mind blowing feature is unquestionably how Lakeside Woodworks was able to use recycled barn beams as the legs and support, even to the detail of reusing old mortis pockets.  The hand hewn markings of the table legs indefensibly become the main conversation piece of this master craftsmanship.  I mean, those legs, right?!?!

7. Modern Office With A Kiss Of The Past:

Office décor by Interspace Design
Distressed wood left alone certainly gives off a rustic vibe. However, when it is paired next to contemporary designs, shapes and material it moves beyond rustic and becomes a sophisticated modern contrast that demands attention. This Pepperpointe office project, in partnership with designs by Interspace Limited, created an industrial space with concrete, a kiss of hardwood, and other geometric shapes that results in a true work of architectural genius. The wood wall touch in the middle of this contemporary office space adds more than just warmth, it makes a statement.  We imagine this feature wall becomes the main talking point at the office’s break room.

8. Kitchen Island With Room To Spare:

Built/by Carolina Lumber in Charleston, SC
Nowadays it’s practically impossible to find a single reclaimed slab this large and reusable like the one found installed as a kitchen island in this lovely home in South Carolina. And the stainless steel sink contrasted against this walnut wood keeps every guest coming back time and time again.  The live edges on this slab that cut through the kitchen gives off a natural feel, as if dinner time is floating down the river. It’s not hard to fathom the beautiful stories that get started around this home center piece.  How many guests do you imagine could fit all at once?

9. Modern Rustic Heavenly Ceiling:

Charleston, SC install was Carolina Lumber
The vast majority of interiors ignore the space directly above. Praise the heavens that popcorn ceiling is no longer the trend to close this design gap, but you don’t have to just settle with the new trend of ultra-glossy reflective paint to give a richer feel. Antique wood ceiling paneling is a guaranteed way to make a statement that won’t go unnoticed. And it provides amazing acoustics. Whether you go with tongue and groove, ship lap or straight edge boards, the boring space will now become the bold statement.  This penthouse sweet in Charleston proves our point brilliantly.  With the modern rustic white backdrop and trendy blue accented areas combined with the touch on top of gray barnwood, this space screams interior fashion.

10. Getting Social On A Staircase:

The University of Kentucky Student Center
Allow us to introduce you to one of the newest Experimental Design Landscape (EDL) ideas, the social staircase. UK’s aim for this design choice was to kindle physical activity from the students in order to contribute to their wellbeing. Research shows that with the more open space feature combined with improved acoustics and perceived harmony, social staircases result in more positive emotions in people.  Feedback from users indicates that this new trend in public architecture demands people’s attention because of the stimulating interactive sound installation that is created.  It is not uncommon for this social staircase at UK’s Gatton Student Center to be completely inundated with students, whether it’s finals week or not. Would you have studied more if this space was available when you were in school?

11. Modern Rustic Design, Shabby Chic Hotel:

Hotel room project in Atlanta, Georgia designed by Madera Arts
What an unexpected surprise it would be to check into this upscale hotel in Atlanta to find all your common modern amenities along with this surprising chic antique wood decor wall.  The modern rustic interior designs combination and the comfort the wood brings helps in relaxing the soul, whether your stay is for a weekend getaway or just for business.  It’s unexpectedly rewarding how distressed wood can destress people.  That’s usually one of the main considerations when interior designers include antique wood as a feature in their fashion choice.  In this particular wall there is a 50/50 mix of both gray and brown boards which has become a top seller.  Not too shabby! Totally chic!
